Here it is....my home. This is a view of the glass and steel structures of downtown Minneapolis, looking north from across Loring Park. I took it from my balcony about two years ago.
Minneapolis and it's twin across the Mississippi, St. Paul, are populated by about 2.4 million other Minnesotans besides me. The Twin Cities are unique in that despite their large size, the Cities have the feel of a much smaller city. Often the best places - especially restaurants - are well off the beaten path, and the ethnic populations are so well integrated that one can even find a quality Afghani restaurant buried in the center of a middle class residential neighborhood. Thus, it's taken me awhile to get to "know" it, but the longer I live here, the more I like it.
I'll be adding pictures soon, so watch for updates! |

| | Q: "But isn't Minneapolis ALWAYS cold??" This is a question almost all of my friends asked before I moved up here from sunny Southern California. Truth is, winters - yes, it can be INSANELY cold at times with air temps in the -20 F range and windchills down to -60 or -70 F, but summers are actually quite warm, and occasionally, downright hot! Humidity can be uncomfortably high as well in the summertime. However, nothing is better on a hot muggy day than to jump into one of the local lakes and cool off!! Fall is my favorite time of year, with the cool days and brisk nights. The foliage here matches up to anywhere else in the US (New England included), and making even the drive to work worth a picture postcard. Spring probably represents the antithesis of "stability". You never really know what you'll get weather-wise until it happens, and don't bother listening to any of the weather forecasts unless they're for the same day (even then, it's questionable). Eight inches of snow one day, 70 F the next....it's all possible during spring. All in all, it's quite an invigorating climate to live in!! |
