Thailand - Feb 2003

Thailand Part I

Wow...Thailand. It was an awesome experience, and it leaves me with the same feeling I get when I see a great movie - that maybe I didn't get all of it the first time, and I have to see it again. Except with Bangkok and actually all of Thailand, I know I wasn't even close to seeing it all....
My first impressions of Bangkok - dirty, smelly, overcrowded, noisy, unbearably hot - overwhelmed every single one of my senses. But once I got past that dizzying feeling, I must say I enjoyed being there like nowhere else - it was simply amazing!

Buried in Bangkok's sprawl are countless Wats, peaceful parks, and the friendliest people on Earth that I have encountered. Plus, outstanding food and amazing shopping - so how could one go wrong?? It's like having everything wrapped up into one neat little package....

The best thing about Thailand has to be the low cost of everything and then the people. Being from the U.S., rarely is it that people will go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying yourself, that you are not lost, or that all is well....perhaps that sounds a bit naive but those are my first impressions of Thailand and of Thais in general.

The Coast

The scenery in the south is amazing....mountains merge into the sea, creating mini-islands which line the coasts. It's an enchanting place.

The City

And of course one of the things Bangkok is known for the most.....traffic! Thanks to the BTS and other forms of transportation one can avoid the gridlock in many cases (but not all!).

Pros:"inexpensive, amazing food, incredible shopping, beauty like nowhere else"
Cons:"hot, hot, hot!!!!"
In A Nutshell:"best of all you want, the worst of all you don't"
