Karibib bottle house

I visited Karibib twice during my time in Namibia this fall. I stayed with a friend (here is a shot of the wonderful bottle house he built). Also went to a terrific little jewelry shop on the western side of town, run by a Russian immigrant and his girlfriend. They make the jewelry using local gemstones and their own designs - prices were extremely reasonable (one necklace was $1.50 US).

Dinner

As far as I know, the only place for dinner is the Western Saloon. My host arranged for a specially cooked dinner of beef and several vegetables, all of which were cheerfully served and tasted great. Dinner for 5 with wine and mixed drinks, as well as desert, came to all of $30.00 US.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Interesting frontier town, good place to get gas between Swakopmund and Windhoek
  • Cons:Dry, dusty, and the restaurants are pretty sparse.
  • In a nutshell:Be sure to visit if you like interesting jewelry!
