Hampi is a long, bumpy bus-ride away from anywhere but the trip is well worth the effort.
The town is built amongst the ruins of the capital of an ancient Indian empire. Temples, monuments and amazing scenery abound. |
| No palace is complete without a relaxing lake |
| | The Palace About a half hour walk along the river from the centre of Hampi are the ruins of the ancient palace.
This ruin is a world heritage site and its easy to see why. |
| Have a meal, write a postcard, take a nap... |
| | The Mango Tree The Mango Tree is one of the best places to eat, relax and soak up the atmosphere of Hampi.
This outdoor restaurant is located at the base of an ancient mango tree. Concentric paved decks form a three-tier balcony that provide a view of the river and surrounding countryside.
More adventurous diners can try the swing which lurches out over the river some 100 feet below. Just make sure you hold on to your lassi! |
