Lake Powai | Haranandani : Civilization....almost |
Hiranandani is a small suburb located about 30 kms north of downtown Mumbai.
While most of Mumbai looks like an inhabited rubbish dump or Hiroshima just after the bomb, Hiranandani does a passable imitation of a livable, western-world suburb.
The apartment buildings in Haranandani are among some of the best looking in the city. At night the view from across the lake rivals anything you can see in downtown Mumbai....except perhaps Suzie Wong's |
| | Naturally enough, Lake Powai gets very, very low by the end of the dry season.
The normally abundant wildlife dissappears in search of greener pastures and the local fishermen and their single-person wader-style boats are long gone. |
| | When monsoon arrives, it REALLY arrives!
After only two weeks of rain the lake regained its level and is threatening to overflow into the surrounding bushland and hotel grounds. |
