The Radio Station - a landmark of Gliwice

Gliwice city has its own "Eiffel tower", although very few people looked at it as if it was an engineering masterpiece. A fatal quarter inclined over the history of the tower dated 1939, as well as, the events which took place not even at the tower, but in the broadcasting radio station building nearby - 1939, 31 August - Nazis dressed in Polish uniforms commited an armed assault on the German Radio Station in Gliwice. The provocation was used by Germany to invade Poland - beginning the WWII.

The tower is a unique engineering thing of the world scale. Other similar object had been either destroyed during the wars, or disassembled and replaced with modern steel constructions. Larch wood is a building material of our tower! Beams are connected with brass bolts (none of metal nails!). Height - 110 meters, footing - 20 by 20 meters.

The Town Hall - nowadays

The Town Hall was built at the end of XIII century, as the seat of municipal authorities. The present building was built in the XV century, though. The fragments of city walls preserved in the vaults, are the remains of the original Town Hall.
