To me, there are not much to see in Abu Dhabi. But you should definitely check out the Grand Mosque at the outskirt of the city. The white white Gand Mosque is quite breathtaking. It's the third largest mosque in the world. It took them over 10 years to build it. They said it was not 100% finished when I visited it in March 2010 but the whole building was there and it was open to the public (non-muslim tourists included) for free. Public buses 32 (faster) and 44 can take you here.

In most, if not all, other countries, a hotel is where you stay and the hotel itself is not a tourist attraction. But things are different in UAE. The iconic sail-shaped Burj al Arab is one of the main attractions in Dubai, which claims to be the only 7 star hotel in the world. Well, some say the Emirates Palace is an 8 star hotel. According to New York Times, "the Emirates Palace is reputed to be the most expensive hotel ever built" by human being. The costs to build the hotel was 1.9 billion British pounds.
