1st Reason: discover the ‘Vulkaneifel’ The Eifel is a hilly region in Germany bordered by the Mosel River in the South, the Rhine in the East, the Luxembourgian-Belgian border in the West and finally in the North by the cities of Aachen, Düren and Bonn. During the Tertiary period the Eifel was a region of extensive volcanic activity. Scientific research has shown that there were several active periods in the past followed by inactive periods of 10.000 to 20.000 years. The last eruption took place about 10.000 years ago, so future eruptions are still possible! Some of the hilltops are (extinct?) volcanoes and the circular lakes in this region are former volcanic craters. If you are interested in geology click “HERE” |

| | 2nd Reason: Learn about of former civilisations The Eifel has a rough climate and the soil is rather poor. That's one of the reasons why this region is thinly populated. Although important Roman and medieval connection roads criss-crossed the surroundings no large cities have developed here. Many remains of Roman and medieval civilisation can be visited For further details click “HERE” |
3rd Reason: Walking and cycling. Numerous signposted walking and cycle tracks are especially designed for active people. Cycle tracks are in excellent condition and generally built along quiet rivers such as the Mosel, Sauer, Saar, Kyll, Nims, etc… More
