The Black Forest is a mountain range situated to the east of the upper Rhine, going from the Swiss border in the south to the city of Karlsruhe in the north. It is about 200 kilometres long, 60 kilometres wide and subdivided into three parts, with mainly forests in the north, a less dense middle part and the highest mountains in the south. The Black Forest is probably the most popular holiday region in Germany. The Black Forest alpine pastures, the timbered houses, Bollen hats and cuckoo clocks are known all over the world. |
