With its beginnings as a trading stop (around 1779, a fur trader of French-African descent, Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable, built a 'log cabin' on the North bank of the Chicago River), this site, along the Southeast shoreline of Lake Michigan, is now filled with cavernous streets, lined with some of the worlds first 'skyscrapers' and other unique examples of urban architecture.
In the photos, we see a sightseeing boat cruising the South branch of the Chicago River, and the view North along Michigan Avenue (from in front of the world-renowned "Art Institute of Chicago"). |
