Sawasdee! Always great to be here!

by AndreSTGT - last update: Jul 20, 2008

Wat Po, Bangkok
I have been to Thailand many times, but never as my main travel destination. But since it's the hub for all travel in South-East Asia i always include some parts of Thailand in my travel plan, either before i venture out to more challenging destinations or to relax afterwards.
In this way i have seen more or less the entire country and it is always a pleasure to return.
Sure, on the whole Thailand is not a challenge, getting around is almost too easy and some of the most beautiful places are overrun by tourists.
But it is not fair to put down the country as a tourist trap. After all, it is Thailand where many first-timers are introduced to the magic of travel (me included) and it is such a beautiful and diverse destination.
Bangkok is one of the great cities in the world, Thai beaches are world-class and the Thais have in many ways managed to retain parts of their cultural heritage.
And for those travelers who prefer off-the-beaten-track experiences there is a large area of the country yet to discover : Isaan!
