Dinant, a small but famous town in Wallonia, the South and French speaking part of Belgium is not only famous as the home town of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone.
It’s also a cosy little town with lots of charming restaurants and terraces along the river. The citadel, overlooking the town and the river Meuse draws lots of tourists.
However, after my last visit I had the idea that Dinant is becoming past glory. The streets are not very clean. The whole town needs a lick of paint and there are too much pigeons and pigeon remains (!).
Still, the region of Dinant is marvellous. Lots of Middle Aged castles, ruins and interesting things to do and to see.
But… you need a car to get around.
- Pros:Beautiful location and great fortress
- Cons:Faded glory perhaps?
- In a nutshell:Lovely town where Adolphe Sax(saxophone) was born.

Wonderful Dinant, lovely pics!
Great tips and photos! Dinant looks like a fabulous small city in Wallonia. Best from New Jersey, Bill
Dinant looks fine in your photos, even if it does need a lick of paint.
Ha... La Gauloise et la Saison de Purnode. Que de souvenirs. Camps patros, 16 ans et ...premiére cuite aussi! Page trés bien faite! JP
I really liked Dinant and I feel that my time there was to brief. The Citadel was excellent. Very good page.
I was wondering where that place was where the floor was oblique. Thanks for reminding me that it was in the Citadel. A great experience, nonetheless!
