Saint Malo, the fortress at the Côte d'Emeraude

Ile-et-Vilaine, at the Côte d'Emeraude is my favourite region in the peninsula of Bretagne.

Saint Malo, the corsair city, called the pearl of the Emeraude coast by the Malouins, is full of history, legends and famous people.

Jacques Cartier, who took posession of Canada in name of the French king and pirate Robert Surcouf, who became rich by cheasing English ships in the Indian Ocean are the town's favourites.

Beside a lot of magnificent sites, Saint Malo has also breathtaking coastal sceneries to discover.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Temperatures are never too hot here.
Cons:Quite far from other French regions, while located in in the extreme West part.
In a nutshell:Rocky shores, wind, waves, history... vacation.

What impressed me particularly about the Bretagne (years ago) was the wind. It felt and smelled so good, and it dried our clothes on the clothesline in about twenty minutes. (Had to be careful to take it in before the next shower, though.)
