Getting TO/AROUND: I never discovered Paris with this company, but according to the look on this woman's face, she must be very satisfied! There are a lot of touring companies by the way. Once from which I heard a lot of good things is Cityrama. For those who visit Disneyland, booked a hotel in the resort but want to spend one day visiting Paris too : Cityrama picks you up at Hotel New York, Newport Bay or Sequoia Lodge in the morning!

Getting TO/AROUND: The easyest way to visit Paris for a tourist, is to buy a "Paris Visite" card or a "Mobilis" card. This card permits to take any subway in Paris during 1 to 5 days. As we had to come from outside Paris and had to take an RER train first, we bought a one day Mobilis card, which was the most economic. 17 euros Plans of the Metro are available in all the hotels and in the stations.

Seine: Les Bateaux - Mouches

Getting TO/AROUND: A little cruise on the Seine? The tours of the Bateaux - Mouches offer a relaxing view on their scenic route along monuments such as the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame, the Musée d'Orsay etc. The tours take about one hour. A night-time cruise (with or without dining) is even more stunning: the boats are equipped with huge footlights illuminating the riverside monuments with big halogen lights. Nice for the tourists, but a lot less pleasant for the Parisians living along the route of these boats. Thats why they call them "Les Bateaux -MOCHES" ;-) Maybe you can find out somewhere what this means...

Herkbert Fri Jun 20, 2008 19:26 UTC Hi Martine - Enjoyed your paris page. We're heading back to Paris for Christmas this year and we can't wait. Thanks for sharing! Tom | cnango Mon Mar 10, 2008 03:00 UTC Hi Martine, Gr 8 tips & pics, this page is most helpful as we’re going to Paris for the 1st time this April. I’ve seen lots of Eiffel Tower pics but your was quite unique.A little cruise on the Seine at night –sounds like a MUST. | Nemorino Thu Aug 23, 2007 21:12 UTC Yes, I can understand why some people call those boats "Les Bateaux-MOCHES" after they kept shining those big halogen floodlights on us in the Parc Tino Rossi by the river. Good to hear that they sell Belgian beer in Amelie's café -- that's a nice detail. | Luchonda Sat Dec 9, 2006 22:54 UTC You are right about the commercial place in Paris; it is forbidden to take pictures with flash inside for whatever holy reason - but the gift shop in the cathedral.... although, Gent St-Baafs has a gift shop aswell |
