Durban

by Truna - last update: Jan 19, 2003

Durban stands out when compared to Jo'burg and Cape Town. I heard alot of bad things about Durban. Especially from those living in the other two cities. It surprises me. I studied for a couple months in Pietermaritzburg, which is a half hour ride north of Durban. I spent alot of time in the city because of that. It's one of the most integrated cities I visited in the country. The Indian population is the largest in the world outside of India. The food is outstanding, the nightlife is great, and the arts are everywhere. The people are friendly and you will meet a number of locals wanting to show you around the city, and take you too see where you live. If you want to check out Umlazi, this is the best way to do it. The city is much safer then it's said to be.
