Sarah Baartman Funeral

Funeral of Sarah Baartman

Sarah Baartman, the "Hottentot Venus" was a Khoisan woman taken from South Africa and brought to Europe as a Freak show performer. She's symbolised oppression ever since. The South African government has since brought her remains back too bury her in Hankey, where it's believed she was originally from. I attended the funeral, and the experience was amazing. It was Woman's Day.

Tradional Dancing

Gloria is a woman of many talants. She is training a group of children and young adults tradional dances. They tour the country performing these dances. Of the various dancers I saw during my time in South Africa, this group was by far the best. They cover traditional Zulu, Xhosa, and San dances to name a few. Even if there is not a whole performance for you too watch, Gloria will let you sit in on their practice.
