Riquewihr is a beautiful preserved medieval town. Narrow streets, cosy, lots of flowers and vineyards.
If you're lucky, you might see a white stork. In the old days you saw them a lot, but the use of pesticides and high voltage cables in the landscape killed a lot.
Nowadays there are breeding programs in the Alsace... thank God, because they're just magnificent!

Riquewihr - vineyards

The Alsace (and Lorraine) were the battlefield of France against Germany for ages! Can't count the times this piece of land has changed nationality... and it shows!
The people act really french, but the food and drinks (sweet white wine) are quiet german.

Riquewihr - grapes

Riquewihr is one of the villages of the 'Route du VIn', 180 km, between Marlenheim and Thann.
The Alsace has famous wines, such as Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir is the only red wine.
You can tell that wine is popular here, just look at the quantity of 'winstubs' and offcourse of their vineyards. And... all the roses in the vineyards, they're planted to keep an eye on the insects, not for decoration.
