Chios is one of the north eastern Aegean Islands. It is just a few miles off the coast of Turkey and about midway between the islands of Samos and Lesvos. The distance from the port a Piraeus is about 165 miles. It is the fifth larger island in Greece, after Crete, Evia, Rhodes, and Lesvos. The length of the coastline is more than 200 kms. The Prefecture of Chios includes also two smaller inhabited islands, Psara and Innousses.
Chios is the only place in the world where a special type of lentisk resin is produced by the mastic tree.
Chios island, as all the islands of the Eastern Aegean, has a large and very rich history, resources and attractions. Chios island has not been overhelmed by international tourism and the visitors still feel they are guests in authentic Greek local people. It has also unique monuments like monasteries and churches, many beautiful beaches not too crowded.

I have visited three times the island of Chios and I believe that someone needs about a week for seeing all the beauties of the island.
