Grahamstown city of saints known by this name due to the large number of churches build there.
It is a city rich in history and is set in the idelic easten cape the smell of blue gum trees which souround the city permiate every thing you will also find a large number of very old dwellings build by the 1820 settlers much of the early fronter wars fought between 1780 and 1879 were fought in this area a large genelogical selection is avalable at the local Albany museum

Grahamstown is not the City of Saints because of all its churches, according to us locals. We favour another explanation.
During garrison days (early 1800s) when a requisition for a vital piece of carpentry equipment was met with the courteous reply: "We regret we have no vice in Grahamstown." The obvious rejoinder was: "Then you must all be saints."
