Grant Phnom Penh at least a couple of days On a visit to Cambodia, the obvious tourist site is Angkor, the nice and prestigious wonder of human culture. In contrast, Phnom Penh offers the real and dark side of the country, with its museums to Khmer Rouge horror, its anachronic palace, and the network of muddy and crowded streets. It is one of the most original SE Asian capitals I have seen, because of this unique terrible past - symbolically, the population is just now back to one million like in 1975 when the Khmer Rouge came to power. This has much to do with giving the city a very special feel to it. |
