Suwon, the capital of Kyonggi Province, is an old fortress-city 50 km (30 miles) south of Seoul in the vicinity of Mt Paltal. The name means "water-source" or "water-field," because this area was traditionally known for its fine artesian wells. These days, Suwon is better known for its recently restored castle walls and support structures, and for its luscious late spring and summer strawberries (called ttalgi in Korean) and its kalbi, or barbecued short ribs. |
