This was not our first trip to Paris, it was not the funnest, or longest, actually, we were not even alone! But it will be one of the most special trips ever because it was our honeymoon after our Christian wedding. We had been here before once at the end of August of 1999 and we found so many people, we decided next time we would come on a calmer season. When we set our wedding date, we realized there was a tournament to be held the following weekend at La Defense and decided to start our honeymoon here, doing what we like to do most, and surrounded by friends from all over the world. The trip was short; 3 days to visit and 2 of tournament. Then we would leave to Orlando Florida. The first time here, we took a guided tour of the city by bus, that included a cruise on the river and we would be dropped at the Eiffel Tower, so we saw pretty much all the important sights of Paris that time. This time we wanted a more calm trip, more romantic. And that is what we did! The first day, we walked towards Notre Dame, went into, and walked several miles around the city, with no specific destiny. We were tired after the wedding and the trip, so we headed to the hotel at 9 pm with 2 loaves of fresh bread and cheese we had bought at a street market. We had a "private" homemade dinner at out hotel room with a little wine. The second day, we went to Versailles, which was a visit we did not get to do last time. A friend of Javi who is married to a French woman told him this would be very romantic. And it sure was, until the sun went down and it started to get very cold. We spent the whole day there and I am sure that during the Summer you can probably spend a couple of days visiting, with all the people, gardens and music. We achieved exactly what we wanted and headed to the hotel at about 7 to take a hot shower and head to a romantic dinner. Friday would be the last day to visit, so we went to the Louvre were we spent the morning, had lunch, saw a bit of the shopping mall and headed to our tournament. Saturday we spent the whole day inside the Grand Arche at La Defense and Sunday, we had decided to go to the Eiffel tower to have a night view, but it was raining, so that was left for the next trip. Monday morning, we had a nice creak with the wonderful French pastries (too bad the French coffee is awful) and walked around La Defense neighborhood to buy some souvenirs for our families.. The first time we came here, we got to the hotel early in the morning and walked over through the Champs-Élysées where there is a huge tourist info office. They helped us do an itinerary and we were able to buy our tickets with some discounts here. The first thing we did was to take the metro towards Notre Dame where we got a tourist bus (Spanish tour) that took us through all Paris (we were 7 people) and we were told part of the history of each monument, castle, museum we went by. Then we were dropped at the Sera River, which I enjoyed most of our trip. We were given a tour with some history and great music as we traveled along the river. We were picked up at the end of the ride and then were brought to the Eiffel Tower, were we had preference tickets (did not have to do lines) and went up. You had the choice to get back on the bus or stay all the time you wanted at the tower, which we did. This way (taking the tour) we got situated in Paris and were able to travel by metro and bus the rest of the trip. During the trip, we went to Moline Rouge for Dinner, which was nothing like we though it would be. It was more of a circus, and the show was apt for kids, a lot of fun. The neighborhood is not so safe (we were told), so we took a taxi from/to. This first time, we walked a lot, and did more of sight seeing, planning to come later and enter museums and monuments. There is just one thing I want to say; we were told French people were not the nicest, and most were rude. In both trips, we have not found even 1 rude person. Everybody has been very nice and helpful and we will repeat this visit, as soon as we get another chance. |
