Bernal is a small colonial town 30 minutes away from the city of Queretaro. It is really worth visiting.

As an special attraction the "Peña de Bernal", is an impressive monolyth of more than 350m and makes the landscape unique.

Few people know that Steven Spielberg used this landscape for his movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" being the monolyth the main attraction in the movie.

    Ah ha...cinematic justification for visiting Bernal. Now if someone would post a San Miguel de Allende guide to Once Upon a Time in Mexico...
