Transportation: GATEWAY TO FRANCE

Getting TO/AROUND: Well what can i say about the channel tunnel. First of all its an engineering marvel of the 20th century, but thats as far as it goes if like me you live right next to the entrance. The tunnel has taken away what used to be a beautiful rural part of Folkestone and turned it in to stone (I HATE IT). But in the name of progress its here and its gonna stay here. Effeciently you can't falt the tunnel, trains are every 20 mins and are hardly ever late. There are i think 3 ways to board the trains 1st is from london waterloo station direct to paris, next you can catch the train from Ashford international station (brand new) and last you can drive your car on the train from Folkestone to france on one of the shuttles, which is on my bloody door step.

Folkestone station is located off radnor park road, oppersit the park inn pub

    Transportation: ROUNDHILL TUNNEL
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Car/Motor Home
Getting TO/AROUND: The roundhill tunnel was constructed about 4 years ago now and was built to link Folkestone and Dover via the M20 moterway. It was bored through the white chalk hills of Folkestone and takes away a vast amount of traffic that used to have to pass through Folkestone to get to Dover and the ports

Getting TO/AROUND: Another photo of the roundhill tunnel, looking through to the northern end, which is one of the main roads into Folkestone. There is another tunnel which goes the other way towards Dover docks and beyond

    Transportation: MOTORWAYS
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Car/Motor Home
Getting TO/AROUND: The area of Folkestone is approched by 2 major motorways the main being the M20 and A20 which runs from Dover then Folkestone and then right through to London, an alternative way is to use the M2 or A2, this will take you from London via the outskirts of Canterbury and on to Dover where you can pick up the A20 to Folkestone

My family are habitual visitors to Folkestone every year during May. For the last ten years or so, The Lifeboat has been our pub of choice - can you confirm if it's still open? If you could email me at jmhashby@aol.com it would be MUCH appreciated!

The white cliffs look just great and your sense of humour is catching. Your revamped page looks very attractive. I'm sorry your favourite Rotunda is there no more. Will be back to read more.
