This lift is one of the last of its kind still working. It takes you from the rotunda amusment park on the beach to the town center at the top. These 2 lifts work by pumping water in to ther tanks to create enough weight to push one lift down and by steel cable pull the other one up. This is not recomended if your afraid of heights. This is victorian engineering at its best DON'T MISS IT.

The warren is a natural haven for wildlife and is a perfect place for long walks and beachcombing. It runs from Folkestone to the white cliffs of dover for about 7 miles or so, passing through lovely sceenery and veiws beneath the chalky cliffs and english channel. It is possible to walk the whole distance but if you are unaware of the area be warned, the channel is tidal and down there it comes in really fast, so make sure the tide is going out before you attempt this walk. Every year people get caught out doing this walk and they get trapped between the cliffs and sea. On this walk you will pass a nudist beach Yipeeeeeeeeeee, this is great if your a peeping tom, try the bushes nearby, there perfect, Oh if you want you can borrow my long grey coat and binoculars Hahahaha. Sorry for the unclear photo, it was very foggy on that day, i nearly got lost myself Hehehe.

This is another photo of the warren and this one was taken the morning after the worst storm the south east has ever had, the year was 1987 when without warning hurricane force winds struck Folkestone. Millions of trees were blown over and thousands lost there roofs and some even lost there lives. The ship you can see in the photo is the hengest cross channel ferry and no that is not the dock, that is in fact a beach. The hengest broke its moorings in the roughest sea i have ever seen in my life and was blown on to the rocks in the warren area. Fortunately there were no passengers on board and the crew that was on the ship where all saved.

Things To Do: ROTUNDA

The rotunda is an amusment park that has been in Folkestone for over 70 years and has lots of memories for me when i was a boy. I think i must have spent my whole childhood in that place as well as most of my parents money Hahaha. The rotunda is another word for round and the original building was the largest unsuported dome building of its day. Its a bit like las vegas inside with hundreds of one arm bandits. Outside ther are various rides like dodgem cars and 2 roller coasters, one of which is an origianal wooden one.On sundays and bank holidays it is market day, one of the best in kent. In late 2003 some of the park is to be knoked down to make way for a multi screen cinima, bowling lanes, and luxury appartments, i don't know if this is a good or bad thing. Time will tell ?

This is another view of the Folkestone rotunda and probably the last one you will ever see. This week the old place which has been there for decades has been sold and it is to be pulled down to make way for a new development. It will be a sad day for me because i have all my childhood memories crammed into that place, i suppose you can't stop progress can you. i will keep you informed of any development

This photo shows one of the oldest working rollercoasters in the world, its made entirely of wood. But alas because of the imminant closure of the fun park this rollercoaster and all the other rides are soon to be sold and the land redeveloped in the name of progress. I have a lot of memories of the Rotunda and it will be a very sad day when they knock it to the ground

The metropole is now better known as the Folkestone arts center with a health and fitness club and a fine restaurant. This was once a truly luxurious hotel and victorian architecture at its best but sadly it has been turned into luxury appartments, still i can't think of a better place to live, can you?

This is another spectacular grand victorian building, and once an impresive hotel. Royals and the wealthy wher the only people that could afford to stay in this hotel. Part of it is now being used as appartments and the glass conservatory at the front is the tea rooms. Well wirth a visit.
