Things To Do: PAMUKKALE

Pamukkale is quite a trek from Marmaris, about 4 hours by coach but well worth the effort to get there. You'll see Pamukkale in the distance,a tall chalky outcrop rising high above the surrounding plain.The source of this strange beauty is a spring that burbles up from the top of the plateau,putting out a stream of warm, calcium-rich water that, as it dribbles over the side and cools, turns in to hard white chalk called Travertine. This has been occuring for thousands of years creating a unique landscape that is found nowhere else on earth. But i urge you not to go in july or august, we went with the children and the heat was unbeleivable. Also this was the second time i had visited pamukkale, the first time it was all that everybody had told me it was going to be, but the second time i went i was horrified to see that the millky white pools of water had almost dried up and everything was a horrible green colour, this was because a certain hotel was diverting the water to the hotel. I will add that this was a few years ago and i really hope that this problem has been solved because its only the water that makes pamukkale the way it is.

This is a new water park that opened last year which makes 2 in marmaris. The star water park is ideal for kids and big kids like me hahaha. It has a kamikaze slide and phantom flumes and a large black hole. Prices are very good with the under five year olds FREE and the under 11 half price. They have a large restaurant and snack bar. All sun loungers and shades are also FREE. And it keeps your kids out of your hair for a whole day hahaha.

Dalyan is a truly beautifull place. Its discribed as being one of the last corners of paradise and i for one think they are spot on. Overlooking the village are the fantastic Lycian rock tombs of the once kings also the anchient city of Caunos and its ruined amphitheatre and mud baths. When you get to Dalyan you will need to hop on a boat this will take you on a 40 minute trip to Istuzu beach traveling through the huge reeds and passing by the rock tombs. Incidentally the film African Queen starring Humphry Boggart was filmed in these reeds. On the way you can visit the Llica mud baths,our kids loved this. These mud baths are supposed to keep you young looking, it didn't work for my wife Ha Ha Ha. Istuzo beach is one of the last nesting grounds for the endangered Loggerhead turtles and i was lucky enough to see one. This is my wife and kids at the Dalyan mud bath. I don't think i have ever seen the kids so clean hahahaha. And as for the wife, this mud bath is ment to reverse the ageing process ( IT HAS NOT WORKED ) Hahahaha.FOR A MORE DETAILED LOOK AT THE MUD BATHS CHECK OUT MY DALYAN PAGE

Things To Do: MARMARIS CASTLE (KALE)

This castle was built during the reign of Sultan Suleyman the magnificent. the sultan had 200,000 troops here for the battle of rhodes, defended by the knights on st john, in 1522. The castle is now a museum and exhibits mostly items to do with the sea.
Cost of entry isUS$1.25 and is open from 8am to noon and then 1pm to 5.30pm
