"Soekershof Walkabout" Robertson by Mary-Jose

Robertson Travel Guide: 23 reviews and 32 photos

Soekershof Walkabout is an experience I will never forget. Look for their website at http://soekershof.com and have a digital taste. But the real thing is far more attractive. The most beautiful cactus- and succulent gardens I have ever seen (the one next to Soekershof is one with more weeds than succulents); and than these aMAZing mazes and a cacti labyrinth; not to mention the Philosophers Garden, the dam, the aloe-garden a.s.o. Take a whole day to discover this South African treasure for it is in every aspect an unique and divers event; Getting completely lost in this beauty with more than 4000 different trees, shrubs and other plants of which more than 1500 are succulents including cacti.
Soekershof is located in Klaas Voogds West 8 kilometres outside Robertson in the direction of Montagu/Swellendam. It is one of the most beautiful spots in south Africa but one does not see it from the main road. But once you are in the Klaas Voogds area one understands that is the the pearl in the lap of South Africa.
Robertson itself does not have so much to offer. Better to go to Montagu (20km or McGregor (25km). Shopkeepers in Robertson seem not to like tourists and that's the same for restaurants except for Fraai Uitzicht in Klaas Voogds East which is chosen as one of South Africa's finest restaurants by American Express.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:The Klaas Voogds area is the onliest area within Robertson where tourists can expect good service and quality for their money. In this area there is plenty of accomodation in all price classes but booking in advance is a must.
  • Cons:No sign at the main road R60 that Klaas Voogds is one of the most bautiful areas in South Africa.
  • In a nutshell:The Robertson area in South Africa is nice but Klaas Voogds is the ultimate South African place to enjoy the good thigs of life
