York is one of my favourite places for history in the UK, there is so much to do here, there's hadly enough time. STONEGATE was once the road to the ROMAN FORT and is lined with Georgian Buildings housing a wide supply of shops including MULBERRY HALL which is famous for its fine china and crystal. Off STONEGATE lies SWINEGATE, also with many shops but catering mainly for food and fashion. If you're looking for real medieval then you should head for THE SHAMBLES, this is one of the best preserved medieval streets in Europe, and boosts pretty boutiques, gift shops, cafe's and restaurants, it really is another world down there and is like stepping back in time |
| | The largest of the 3 pictures is York Minster, which is an impressive piece of architecture and history. Picture 2 is The City Walls, which still surround York today and the 3rd pucture is WALMGATE BAR, but now instead of horses and carts on its cobbled streets, your'e more likely to find cars, buses and bikes ! |
