Touchdown | sun setting over a cold Venice |
Well, my day finally arrived to fly off to Venice, I had been looking forward to this trip for years and could'nt quite believe it had finally arrived. We checked in at E/mids Airport at 11:15am and flew with EASYJET at 13:15hrs. Our flight was a small 2hrs and the views were amazing as we crossed over the Alps and the most ironic thing was that one of the flight attendants was a girl whom I used to go school with, ( she was a yr below me ) but what a place to bump into someone from 16yrs ago, 30+000ft in the air ! We touched down into Marco Polo Airport in what I can only say was freezing fog, but with a wonderful view of the sun setting, from then on it was abit chaotic and stressful finding our hotel, but what I now know I can share with you. After collecting our bags we headed towards the Waterbus, and it was abit daunting as it was pitch black, foggy and we did'nt know where the hell we were going ! After what seemed like an eternity, we docked at St. Marc's Sq and decieded that as we were so tierd we would get a water taxi to hotel. As we did'nt know which way we were going we asked this couple and they had no idea either, so we went halves with them to our hotel as they were going our way ( best was the taxi driver had to ring our hotel to find out were it was ! ) We dropped off the couple and headed on towards ours, the further we went the darker it was getting and I started wondering where the hell we were being taken, or WHAT we were being taken to, we were in the back of beyond ! Finally we arrived and were told he could not go no further as water to low, so we walked the last few hundred yards and were relieved to find the hotel, we were cold, hungry and thirsty and in need of a GOOD CUP OF TEA ! The rooms were lovely and I felt like we were in a Chateau not a small hotel, the hotel certainly made up in decor and furnishings for where we were and the bed was HUGE ! After a shower and change of clothes we walked to the square which had cafe's and bars in, it was a place more for students but I did not care as long as I ate. Feeling full up and relaxed after a glass of wine, we headed back, it had been a long day and we just wanted to get our heads down, and what a greats night sleep I had. I hope you follow on my trip viewing my pics and tips, I really enjoyed this city with its coloured houses and many waterways, and hope you enjoy it to. |

| | This is what coming to Venice is about, a ride in a Gondola. Rides are'nt cheap but if you've come this far and go home without going in one, you'll regret it. We took the small trip, it was nice and smoothe and we managed to catch a passing gondola with a singer and a guy with an accordian, his voice was amazing and it must of cost them a fair bit to have them in the gondola ! |
