We all know that we have to more vigilant when travelling abroad and have to be on our guard at all times. Professional pickpockets will know a tourist when they see them so don't give them an easy ride, here's afew things I did that helped.
1) Don't carry more cash than you really need
2) Don't let anything stick out of your pockets, its easy to be taken from you if its sticking out.
3) Use your inside pockets and don't put money or other valuables in your outer pockets of your clothing, this again is an easy ride for them.
4) Buttom up coats and make sure if you have inside pockets that they are sealed down properly.
5) Hold your handbags close to your chest or under your arm with the zip facing front ways so that you can see it at all times.
6) If your are out sitting down either at a cafe or on a park bench, keep all your valuables on your knees
Also if you do lose any money especially travellers cheques you may still be able to get a refund whilst still on holiday, but it varies on the type you take. Any loss of property either money or goods, should be reported to the local police WITHIN 24hrs or you may not be able to claim back.
Its worth knowing that if you are on the Metro system go to the terminal point and you may find it there, if not go 48hrs later to the Lost and Found Bureau ( Bureau des Objets Trouves) if your property is found you will be asked to pay a 4% of its value for service and NO information can be obtained over the phone.
