  • Jiddah means Grandmother in the Arabic language, which is believed that Eve was burried here, this is the wall of Ommana Hawwa(or our mother Eve)cemetery.

See the street next to it,this used to be my playgroeund...i used to cycle all the time and use my roller skates back in the early 80s.

long ago I remember the non-Arab pilgrims used to come here and read some prayers, and visit this place, but the the government built this wall around it and forbid the pilgrims to visit it...because their worship should be towards Allah(God)and no other soul.

  • Long ago Jeddah was surrounded by a huge wall and it had gates to enter the city.
Now this gate(where passengers from Makkah would come through)is the one of the remaining gates, located at the Downtown of Jedddah.

  • Actually this view is from the 13th floor but the building has the first floor as the ground floor and the ground floor is the basment(just so we don`t have the number 13).
But still a wonderful view form the top.

  • One of Jiddah Festival attractions that aime at promoting domestic tourism and attracting visitors and holidaymakers from outside the Jeddah area,The first summer festival in 1999 attracted 1.2 million visitors.
We have been to the circus 3 times,(three summers).
It provides shows with "male only"jugglers and preformers, who come from many other countries such as:Mexico,Ecuador,Romania,France,Morocco and Spain.
The first circus held in Jiddah had many shows involving animals(Bears,Lions, and Tigers).
The tickets are from 40-120 Riyals(10-32$)for adults
    and from 35-50 Riyals(10-13$)for children.

  • Ever since I was a child this was almost the only entertainment in Jiddah.
My father used to take us on weekends(it`s Thursdays & Fridays here)to camp at the beach.
We had a tent and my father and my brothers used to set it up and go fishing all day and night.
Now(where we used to camp is all built up with houses and the coast line has been moved further west(the government actually dumped the water with sands to make Jiddah a little wider).
This is a picture of a private beach I go there with my family(kids and husband)to have a swim and to snorkel.

Just returned to see what's new since 2004. Quite a bit. Very interesting! First you made me hungry--delicious food suggestions--then you guided me to "Fitness Clubs." Not fair! lol I enjoyed your additions as much as the older ones!!!
