Fredericksburg Off The Beaten Path Tips by Djinn76

This day, I forgot to take the battery of my camera, a big mistake, I would have been able to take the nicest pictures of my trip!! Imagine a massive dome of pink granite from where you have an awesome panoramic view of the Hill Country. The northwest side is made of high cliffs attracting many climbers.
However there is a pretty short trail on the south side leading directly to the rock summit. That is indeed what most of the visitor are doing. I would suggest to do the same (don’t forget to bring some water!) but then once you have reached the top go down to the Rock Cave, not too sure what that is, I’ve seen some people trying to walk into the bunches under the rocks but nothing is clearly indicated and it seems quite risky for not much to see…Anyway, from there, walk to the eastern side of the rock, you would then leave the loudly crowd of tourist to be on your own and appreciate the silence. You can also get down from this side and reach the Turkey Pass trail that would either bring you back to the parking if you are in a hurry or along the rock…
The park is located 18 miles north of Fredericksburg on RR965. One day fee is 5$ and map are available from their website.
