Belgian food and drinks...

by Djinn76 - last update: Mar 4, 2005

There is so many things to say about his own country!
You can already find a perfect summary here.
If you understand French or Dutch, have a look to frites.be (small english version as well)
Since good food is an important point of any good trip, I will already try to share with you the different things you could taste here, and believe me there is a lot...

I suspect this page will be under construction for quite some time ;-)
Indeed I will have to give tips about the following:

Beers Although Belgian people usually appreciate good wine, drinks in Belgium usually means beers, I'll start my tips with this...I still have a few dusty (empty) bottle waiting to be returned, I'll explain what they are...
Chocolate We don't have anything to learn from Switzerland ;-)
Waffle From Brussels but also from Liege
Cheese Simply incredible how many different kind of cheese we can find in such a small country!!
Speculoos A typical cookie!
Belgian fries Even in US they know "frites" shouldn't be called french fries...
and from there, the usual :
- Steak - Belgian fries - Salad
- Mussels and belgian fries

But we also have lots of other specialities
Stoemp (say stoomp): mashed potatoes with vegetable
Beer stew Carbonades Flamandes - Vlaamse Stovery
Waterzooi
Belgian Endives - Chicons - Witloof (beurk! ;-)
Brussels Sprouts - Choux de Bruxelles - Spruitjes (beurk! ;-)
....

Jean-Francois, thank you for the 13 Belgian beer tips!! Excellent! :) Now I can check if they're available here. As you can tell from my motto beer is a favorite of mine. Love your other Belgium tips too. Regards from San Francisco. Cheryl
