Arkhangelskoe estate

The palace itself, built in late 18th century by french architect Charles de Guerne is actually constructed from wood. While looking as being made from stone, it is just a clever stucco effect.

Here is the view of the southern facade of the palace, from the gardens below.

Sadly the palace is still undergoing extensive reconstruction, so cannot be visited at the moment.

Park and Gardens

While the estate serves as an army sanatorium, it can be freely visited (well, with a purchased ticket) and while the palace is under reconstruction, you can enjoy the walk in the gardens south of the palace, forest park north of the palace or a quiet walk along the Moskva river.

The estate itself is very easily accessible from Moscow, being situated just about 20kms west of Moscow.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Quiet short break from Moscow, lovely estate
Cons:Palace is closed currently, statues covered for renovation...
In a nutshell:Neo-classicism, gardens and park just outside Moscow
