Mozzarella Bar: Pizzas and Pastas European Cuisine Review

Modern italian restaurant, offering a mix of pasta, pizza and meat dishes, with a view on Moskovski prospekt.

During lunch time, there is a discount of 20% from the fixed prices.

The restaurant is part of the group probka that owns several restaurants in St Petersburg and there are 2 mozzarella bars - one on Moskovski prospect, the other in Sadovaya street in the center.

Favorite Dish: Good food and rather generous portions, even if little more pricey for pizzas - 350 to 450 Rubles. Good and efficient service.

Beer exchange - Pivnaya Birzha: Invest in beer Russian Cuisine Review

A proof capitalism arrived in Russia too...

The 15 beers on offer have no fixed price, but instead you have an electronic board listing the prices of all beers. These prices vary according to the demand - the more guests order one sort of beer, the more expensive it gets, the price being lowered when no orders are made...

Favorite Dish: Classical pub offer - meat, sausages, etc...

And a russian specialty present in all pubs - grenki or gryanki - toasted bread, coated in garlic, excellent with beer

Address: Nab. kanala Griboiedova

Comparison: about average

Directions: Besides the Bankovski bridge (the one with griffons) on the Griboiedova canal, just behind the Kazan cathedral

Price: US$31-40

Kavkaz Bar: Good food, bad service Georgian Cuisine Review

Restaurant near the Nevski prospect, offering traditional caucasian cuisine. While the food was good, the environment is slightly more cheap (plastic fruits as decoration) and feels a little "touristy" - but most of the guests were russian...

And the service - even in Russia I had rarely encountered so appalling service giving you the feeling you are not welcome (at least given the restaurant prices). And in spite of all this, the restaurant was full...

So you will not be disappointed by the food, but if you are looking for caucasian cuisine, for a slightly higher price, I would recommend Erevan (see my other tip).

Favorite Dish: I love khadchapuri and mutton or lamb shashlyks, so this is an always favourite...

Address: Karavannaya 18

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Near Nevski prospect and Fontanka, Metro Gostinny Dvor

Price: US$41 and up

Erevan: Great Armenian food Georgian Cuisine Review

Restaurants offering Caucasus cuisine are my favorite in Russia, but Erevan really takes the experience even higher.

Nice views of the Fontanka, restaurant decorated with taste by armenian designers, great attentive service and great food that goes beyond the usual shashlyk or khadzapuri.

The best from Caucasian restaurants I tried so far in Russia...

And while the prices are of course higher, not much so - count between 2000 and 3000 rubles for two people, depending on the drinks

Favorite Dish: Everything we ate was great, but I would recommend something with either cheese or eggplants for starters and then one of typical armenian foods with lamb or - sturgeon. If you never tasted sturgeon, do it... Just to show that the meat has nothing to envy to caviar... (actually tastes like a cross between salmon and white fish - excellent). As for the desert, I am a traditionalist - bakhlava...

As for the drinks, you can go for the surprisingly good armenian wine (the dry one), then finish the meal with an armenian brandy and their house specialty - mountain herbal tea done from several mint varieties...
