Holly land... | thanks janchan to transform pic into JPG format |
Finallyyyy, I was in Tibet! I had been talking about going to Tibet for quite a long time until Oct 2002. But the trip was still too short! I was't be able to make the trip further to Kathmendu, Nepal due to some boarder issues. We stopped at Shigatse...Ok, a good execuse to go back :-))
It's very hard to describe my feeling of standing by the highest lake of the world (NamTso; altitude: 4700m)...trully it is the holy land! Ha Da (a kind of white scarf) can be seen everywhere for the blessing of this sacred land...
The most adventurous trip I have ever made both home and abroad, from mountain sick to tibetan yak milk and oil tea...from nomad's land to most tourist city of Lhasa, sitting in the jeep bumping up and down for one day...however, the beautiful landscapes made you forget all the pains...
I went there with my 2 good friends William and Eveylne (some of the pictures are from their cameras), who also like travelling a lot. However, seems man get stronger reaction on the mountain heights...On the airport bus from Lhasa to the downtown city, William already felt strong headache and always had feeling to vomit, lucky he didn't. Looked like he really had a hard time...Evelyn and I seemed to be fine with most of the afternoon slept in the hostel for adjustment. However, still the first night was a hard time for all of us with pretty strong headache...that was the typical reaction towards mountain sick. Drinking water and lying down...try not to move even not to nod your head...hee...everything is in very slow motion...no wonder nobody complains about the slow service there...lol...:-))
We flied from Shanghai to Lhasa via Chengdu. Gee, the airport was so crowded with tourist groups with different colour of flags held by the tour guide. Still so many people think going to Tibet alone is dangerous and hard...anyway, different mindset. At the airport in Chengdu, I also met another group of friends who went with their colleagues and boss in Kodak, so imagine how many pictures they took in Tibet and yes, my films were donated by them...haa :-))
Well, I wish I could be back one day and then go to Kathmendu via the Friendship Highway. One day! |
| | At 3pm when service starts Da Zhao Temple (aka Jokhang) is the main religious place for local people to do service...with whole body down for praying.
The weather in Sept/Oct is just perfect to visit Tibet, with sunshine all day and a bit cool in the mountain area. |
Beauty of purity Yumso lake.
You will see these beautiful views all the way along to Yumso and NamTso. | | |
