Typical Basque Farm-House

One of the Main Reasons that I walked the Camino de Santiago was so that I could see the Real Spain and one of the first areas that the " Way " took us through was the Basque Country, Truly Beautiful !!!

" The City Gate "

The first city that we passed trough was Pamplona, a Beautiful city and I wished that we had had more time to spend here !! It is somewhere that everyone has heard of ( because of the Running of the Bulls ) but few people have probably actually visited. If you have a chance then Go because you don't know what you are missing !!!

Windmills on the Ridge !!

When you leave Pamplona walking the Camino, the path takes you over this ridge and What a Sight !!!! The ridge is Full of Windmills, these generate Pamplona's electricity, I am Very Much in Favour of this for this form of energy and didn't find them at all visually disturbing -- What do you think ???

Tha Bridge at Puentela Reina

One of the Most Famous and Most Beautiful Pilgrims Bridges on the whole Camino de Santiago is at Puentela Reina, you won't miss this bridge as the " way " takes you right over it !! Just take a few minutes to marvel at it when you pass !!!

The Church at Estella

The Town of Estella was specifically built to take care of the welfare of Pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago, it is well worth timing your walk to take a half day here as there are many Churches and old Interesting Buildings to explore

Reservoirs outside Logrono

The second city the Camino takes you through is Logrono, although this city is smaller and not as famous as Pamplona it is still worthwhile spending a few hours exploring and shouldn't be dismissed !!!

Tah main square at Naverrete

Another ancient Pilgrims town is Naverrete, there are some Beautiful ancient buildings here to explore and the main square is a great place to sit and have a relaxing drink !!!

" The Arch of Santa Maria "

Burgos was the largest and most interesting city that we walked through on the first section of the Camino, we spent two nights here and were able to explore most of the sites that this Beautiful city had to offer !! The main sites are fairly central and close to the Cathedral and so makes Burgos easy for exploration on foot !! however don't forget to visit Hospital del Rey when you are walking west out of the city !!!
