Tourist Trap: Warning for Film Processing in Kathmandu
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nepal - “The Image Centre” (Colour Link)

  • Having just returned form an Excellent though Expensive trek to Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang, Nepal, My friend took 9 films for processing to “The Image Centre” (Colour Link) JP Road (Same street and same side as the kathmandu Guesthouse) Tel 4251468
They Destroyed 9 films and then blamed her Camera, which is fine and an expensive SLR model (Also she had 3 films developed without problem just before setting off on the trek)
They reckoned that light had got into the camera, Strange that this problem mysteriously came and went at the beginning. Middle and end of the films, Not all the films either as one only had a couple of bad ones, I reckon that just over 50% of the prints were worthless !!
They didn’t even offer to reduce the price to soften the blow !!

Also I had them download by photo’s from my digital camera and burn them to disk (Before I realized that they had cocked up the developing of Helgas films), they had problems doing this too and somehow managed to loose about 200 of my pics !!??
Guess what, They said that my memory card had a virus on it – Strange that this had never happened before or since ??

Anyone else had trouble here ??
Take a tip and go somewhere else would be my Best Advice.
    Happy Clicking
    Rob

Alternative: I would avoid this place and Only have your films developed at a processors that either you have used before or that you have had a personal recommendation for, Alternatively take your films back home with you and have them developed there as once they have been ruined there is no going back !!

Tourist Trap: krua Thai Restaurant & Bar

  • This is one place that I Definately would NOT recommend !!
First the food is Overpriced and Poor Quality, Then I got my little bag stolen in here -- I Know that getting my bag stolen wasn't exactly the fault of the restaurant but afterwards they were Very unhelpful -- and there was a question as to who stole it ????
I had hung this little bag over the chair next to mine on a table set for four on the terrace, There was two of us dining and the table was Never left unoccupied for the whole time that we were there, Luckily there was nothing of any great value inside but loosing my address book was a major inconvenience for me !!!!
2006 -- Well, I didn't go back here for Obvious reasons -- If you want to try it then it's up to you -- Personally I would give it a Miss

Thanks for your helpful tips and emails re our trekking trip - we got the packing just right ( I hope our porter would agree!) We used Nirmal, as you suggested, and never regretted it - he was fantastic Carolyn

Hi Rob, This is all great information, I am off to Nepal in Oct/Nov and am very greatful for your tips. I had no idea you were able to book direct to India, Do you know if it is possible to go all the way to Varanasi from Kathmandu and how to book this?
