Really getting away from it All !!!

If you are looking for somewhere to Escape, Get away from All the crowds, if you like walking, Excellent un-crowded beaches and a simple life then Gavdos could just be the place for you !!!
Situated in the middle of the Libyan sea, 24 miles south of Crete, fours hours by ferry from Paleochora and only has a population of 40 this is certainly a Very low key Island.
No Airport, only one shop -- and that was closed when we were there, a few Taverna's But some of the most Beautiful un-crowded beaches that I have ever seen -- Does this sound like the place for you -- if so then read on !!!!

Camping !!

Our chosen accommodation was a tent !! and we camped behind Korfu beach, Officially camping isn't allowed on Gavdos but Nobody bothered us !!! We were very lucky and had Korfu beach completely to ourselves but it was right at the end of the season. There are also rooms available to let so the choice is yours !! Just Enjoy Gavdos -- I am Sure that you will !!!

Some people ask me if I Use my pro-tector's !!
Well I am pleased to report that this trip was another successful pro-tector protected journey, my rucksack arrived safe and dry at Chania ( after an Athens transfer -- Athens is one of the most notorious airports that I know for damaging luggage !! )

Pros and Cons

Pros:No Crowds ,Beautiful Beaches Great walking
Cons:Difficult to get to -- Ferries only run twice a week and not at all if the weather turns bad so you can get "Stuck" on the Island for weeks !!!
In a nutshell:If you have "Time" and aren't looking for Bright Lights then Gavdos could just be the place for you !!!

sawyour page of Gavdos following link to your India page about to go to Dharmasala discovered Gavdos 1998... no hotels , shoptwo tavernas closed.. fewer people I wanted to live there..it was nice to see it thru your eyes best susana
