If you want to go to one of His Holiness The Dalai Lama’s Teachings then all you have to do is see when there is a teaching scheduled, make your way to McLeod Ganj a few days ahead of the date, Go through security, a simple process but it can be time consuming when there are crowds there – hence better done at least 2 or 3 days before the teaching, all you need are 2 passport photos and your passport, the security office is close to Green Hotel in McLeod Ganj. Then you claim your spot at the teaching by placing an old towel or the like with your name on it at the monastery where the teaching is to be held – this is respected too. Then all you need is a vhf radio and ear-piece – there is a simultaneous translation from Tibetan to several languages, English being a popular one – Make sure you claim your spot in the correct zone as you can only pick up transmissions to selected languages in selected zones. That is it – Simple To check when the next Teaching is scheduled visit the website below Now to getting there Flying is possible, but the nearest airport to McLeod Ganj is quite a way away and has poor transport links, Personally I would go by train via either Pathankot, or catch a train to Shimla (Awesome Journey) and a bus from there – alternatively you can catch a direct bus all the way from Delhi Which ever transportation option you choose is unimportant -- Just try and go because you won’t be disappointed !!

Local Customs: Getting your Visa through an Agent

I have decided to put this tip under local customs as I have used my transportation tips pages to write about my journeys through India – So I Hope that you have fond this ok !!?? As a lot of you will no doubt be aware, The Indian High Commission in London no longer issues Visas by Post (Or do they – there is some Talk now that they have re-established this service ?) However – If for what ever reason you decide to employ an agent to get your India Visa (Which is what I did as living out in the sticks of Cumbria, it was far to far to go to either London, One of the “Local” Visa surgeries and I didn’t particularly like the idea of posting my passport to The Indian High Commission in London as I had heard rumours of passports going missing there !!?? So I employed “The Indian Visa Office” of Grays, Essex to get it for me There charges were ok, £30 for the Visa and additional £30 for their fees. It was hassle free and arrived quickly and I have no hesitation in recommending them.
