Planning | Rob on the Roof Terrace of Hostal Apuntadores |
One of the great beauties of Majorca is the ease of getting there, lots of different budget airlines operate from most regions in the UK so air-fairs are usually inexpensive with plenty of choices of dates to fly as well as airports to depart from. This little trip was a combination break of a “Boys” weekend on the beer and a few days walking in the hills. So – a total of eight of went on the trip and as our “Group” lived in various parts of the UK it ended up as five flying from Liverpool with easyjet, two flying from Bristol with easyjet and one flying from Edinburgh with flyglobespan. We all met up in Palma where I had pre-booked The Hostal Apuntadores for the 1st three nights then five of the group departed leaving three left for the walking part of the holiday. |

| | Palma Palma is a Great city and I would thoroughly recommend it as either a city break or a longer stay. It has an excellent transport system starting off at the airport with an airport bus taking you to the centre of Palma in less than ½ hour for 1.85 euro.
The cathedral still dominates the old town, then there is a beautiful castle on a hill overlooking the town towards the east as well as many churches and interesting old buildings and museums. Also Palma has a good nightlife with plenty of lively bars, good and diverse eateries and is an Excellent night out.
To get around Palma you can either walk or catch one of the modern busses that criss-cross the city, There is also a new metro but this was closed when I was there and there was a question as to when / if it was going to re-open.
Getting away from Palma is also simple with two railway stations, one for the antique train to Soller and a modern underground one with trains heading to the east of the island. There is also a modern bus station close by the railway stations with regular busses departing for destinations all over the island. |
The walk We caught the antique train from Palma to Soller, This is a really Excellent journey that takes you over the plains behind Palma then through the mountains and down to Soller. The journey takes around 1 hour and costs 9 euro. From Soller we split our walk into three stages to Inca via Lluc Monastery, I will list the walk in stages under Sports travel. From Inca we caught the train back to Palma for a last night.again staying at The Hostal Apuntadores before heading back to the UK. All in All a Great 6 day break, packing a lot into a short time and managing to see a lot of the island. | | | The view towards Lluc Monastery |

ranger49 Sun Jul 20, 2008 14:58 UTC Great pages - I took my Mum a similar route ( no trekking!) twice in the last year of her life, her only visits to Spain and she loved it. Had no idea you could stay in the monastery - no sign then and years later you had to arrive on foot like a pilgrim. | starship Thu Dec 6, 2007 17:22 UTC Fantastic and informative page! Great tips! We only had one day in Palma. Never thought of hiking! | bijo69 Mon Dec 3, 2007 12:05 UTC Great page Rob! Sounnds like you really enjoyed your trip! |
