Tourist Trap: The Refugio at Manjarin

  • This Refugio is set in an Absolutely Stunning Location just 2k after The Cruz de Ferro and was once apparently a " Must " place to stay as the guy who runs it " Thomas " has devoted his life to looking after pilgrims who have just crossed the Pass. Unfortunately now the place seems to be full of hanger's on and it sounds like Thomas has lost the plot somewhat and has now taken to dressing up as a medieval night and likes to Dub his Guests with a huge Great Sword !!!!
Also there are No washing Facilities, No Running water ( even the local spring has now been polluted with effluent ) and No Toilets So Think Carefully before deciding to stay here !!!!!!!

  • The Small Town of O Cebreiro is set High in the Mountains at 1300 metres and the views from up there are Stunning, Unfortunately it is now on ALL the Bus Tours from the surrounding area and this Beautiful Little Town now gets totally over-run with tourists, the Bars and Restaurants are crowded and somewhat unfriendly which is a Great Pity as it Really is a Beautiful Little Place !!!!!

Wow! That must have been an experience. Camino has recently become quite popular in Poland too. I remember quite a few articles about it in various newspapers and magazines. Congratulations on completing the pilgrimage even if it was 4y.ago :) !

Rob, loved The Camino! Thank you for the recommendation. Best walk I've ever taken. Your pages are wonderful and bring back great memories.

Rob, this was a very enjoyable read and view of Santiago de Compostela. It's obvious that you enjoyed this walking tour. The cathedral is, no doubt, quite lovely. Thanks for a great vicarious experience.
