  • This is a great little refugio Right in the centre of town, it only has 15 beds so don't arrive late in peek times otherwise you will not get a bed !!
Run by Very Friendly volunteers who speak some English and have loads of useful information and even provide you with a breakfast !!
Good dinner available in local restaurant or good kitchen facilities in the refugio
Showers are coin operated but Very Good
Only one toilet so you might have to queue in the morning !!

  • This is a great Privately run refugio Right in the centre of town, it has some private rooms available at a very reasonable 7e per room if you prefer some privacy as well as dormitories. There is also a Very nice garden area to sit out in !!
There is a bar right next door, it doesn't do food in the evening but does open Early for Breakfast Coffee !! and also attached is a small shop selling all the provisions that you might wish for to cook yourself an evening meal in the Well equipped kitchen !!
a Very well run and Friendly place to stay and well recommended !!!

  • This refugio was described in our book as Very Basic with No Beds or Running water !!
However when we got there we discovered that the Volunteers had been Hard at Work and have now installed two Excellent Hot water showers as well as Good toilets
True there aren't beds but sleeping mats are provided and there are only four people to a room so there is Loads of space !!
Run by Very Friendly volunteers who speak some English and have loads of useful information and provide you with a an EXCELLENT evening meal as well as a Great breakfast
There isn't a set charge however you are invited to leave a donation
The Sun-Set here will be a Highlight of your trip so Don't miss it and the Gregorian chant that accompanies it will be forever in your memory !!
The town is exceptionally friendly with locals congregating outside the refugio in the evening to chat with the pilgrims.
Don't miss this refugio as it is Sure to be a Highlight of Your Camino !!!

  • The Main reason that I am mentioning this place apart from myself and Stevie staying there is that it puts you within Easy walking distance of Leon if you are wishing to spend a half day there to be able to explore the city !!
The Green Dolphin is a bit run down, the rooms aren't so clean and the toilets and showers are very poor -- smelly even !!!
But the Food is Really Good !!
Prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly enough but you won't find anyone around early in the morning !! there is a vending machine so you can get yourself a breakfast of sorts !!

  • This is a New refugio Right in the centre of town, Large with loads of beds in one large room. There are Good Shower, Toilet and Kitchen facilities. There is also a nice garden area to sit out in !!
There are two bars, one of them is right opposite, and one just down the road but neither does food however there is a shop selling all the provisions that you might wish for to cook yourself an evening meal.
The town it's self is a bit un-interesting but the refugio is quite a nice place to stay !!!

  • This is a great Little Refugio at the far end of the village in the Old School, There are two private rooms available if you want some privacy as well as one good sized dormitory and there is also an inside sitting area. This refugio is run by Friendly village people and there isn't a strict curfew to adhere to !!
Very Good dinner available in local restaurants but there are No kitchen facilities in this refugio
    Good Showers and toilet facilities
There isn't anywhere open for breakfast but there is an Excellent little cafe open in the next village, Santa Catalina de Somoza about 5k further west along the Camino !!!

  • I have to say that we weren't overly impressed by this refugio but it was the Only one ( of three in the book ) that was open in this town and as we had come along way this day we decided to stay in any case !!
The Refugio is in a new and purpose built building behind the Bar of the same name and the facilities are good enough, however we found it Very Cramped with not enough toilets and showers for the number of pilgrims that had been shoe-horned in !!
Also we found the staff Very Unfriendly, the service in the Bar and Restaurant Very Poor but it has to be said that the food was Good if somewhat Expensive !!
The Bar / Restaurant was Closed for Breakfast -- not even a cup of coffee available !!
The best thing about the town was the town it's self -- Very Pretty Place with Awesome views over the surrounding countryside !!!!!

  • This was one of the most unusual Refugios that we stayed in !! All the rooms were twin bedded, facing the Huge Church and built around the old Church Yard wall !! Run by efficient volunteers and with Excellent Shower and Toilet facilities. The town it's self has numerous Restaurants and Bars to choose from ( You MUST try the Public Bodega !! ) but keep an eye on the time as the curfew here is strictly adhered to and you Will be out by 08.00 !! Also no Breakfast places open that we could find !!??

  • This was another of our Most Favourite Refugios on the entire route !! We had done a Long Hard day and when we arrived here Carlos, the guy who runs the place looked after us Exceptionally well !!
This is only a small Refugio so arrive early to avoid disappointment. there are two dormitories, one 10 bedded and one 8 bedded, Great toilet and shower facilities and a Very Homely atmosphere !!
There is a nice little area to sit outside as well as a comfortable dining-room and this Refugio really is a Great Place to wind down and relax after a hard day on the Camino !!!
Carlos is a Fantastic cook and makes a Wonderful evening meal and sells reasonably priced cold drinks from his fridge !! Also he makes you a Substantial breakfast the next morning to see you on your way !!
This really is a Refugio Not to be Missed !!!

Wow! That must have been an experience. Camino has recently become quite popular in Poland too. I remember quite a few articles about it in various newspapers and magazines. Congratulations on completing the pilgrimage even if it was 4y.ago :) !

Thanks for the terrific and detailed description of the Camino. Santiago is a place which I have wanted to visit all my life. Now I know the best way to do that!!! :-D

Rob, loved The Camino! Thank you for the recommendation. Best walk I've ever taken. Your pages are wonderful and bring back great memories.

Rob, this was a very enjoyable read and view of Santiago de Compostela. It's obvious that you enjoyed this walking tour. The cathedral is, no doubt, quite lovely. Thanks for a great vicarious experience.
