Getting TO/AROUND: The Blue Train is unique - it is not merely a train but combines the luxury of the world's leading hotels with the charm of train travel. Think of it as an all inclusive luxury rail cruise with an opportunity to view South Africa's spectacular landscapes and visit interesting tourist attractions along the way.

Take a journey into a timeless world of grace, elegance and romance, where spectacular scenery stirs your imagination and luxurious comfort soothes your body and soul. Sit back, de-stress and relax.

This unique luxury recreation and business experience takes you where you want to go in an endless, five-star splendour. Transportation: SHOSHOLOZA MEYL (TRAINS)
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: Shosholoza Meyl promises that each of our passengers will be treated to "A Pleasant Experience" from the moment they book and buy their ticket, throughout their journey by train until they disembark at their end destination.

Anyone familiar with the history of migrant workers in South Africa will instinctively know that Shosholoza is the name of a popular traditional African song favoured particularly by hard working men whose work it was to lay railway lines. Meaning to push forward, endeavour or strive, it evokes a sense of pride. Today the song has become a favoured rallying cry of our sportsmen and women and their supporters.

Altogether it reflects a sense of joy and unity.

Imeyili is an old colloquial term used to describe a long distance train. By replacing Rail with Meyl a warm sense of history is restored.

Getting TO/AROUND: Gauteng’s urban bias makes it easy for travelers to get around by almost any mode of transport. Johannesburg International Airport is 24kms from the CBD and is the hub of an extensive air network linking all the major cities in sub-Saharan Africa. The province’s extensive road system of double carriage motorways and highways connects the province to all major cities in South Africa. Johannesburg is also the hub of the continent’s rail network, with regular services to Harare, Maputo and the main cities in South Africa.

    Transportation: THE BUS SERVICE

  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: The public bus network is highly efficient and extremely useful for travelers. When traveling within city limits, the Metro bus systems will provide access to almost any part of the city you are traveling in. Johannesburg’s bus network covers all adjacent suburbs and connects in the CBD at Ghandi Square. Tshwane’s (Pretoria) system operates similarly and connects in the CBD at Church Square.
Intercity travel is serviced by coach companies and includes international companies like Greyhound and Translux.

Transportation: E MINI BUS!! WHOZA MADODA!
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: South Africa is peculiar in the sense that a network of minibus taxis has mushroomed into a major commuter service that has become integral to the everyday life of visitors and locals alike. These minibus taxis require some knowledge of local customs and have a culture all of their own. There are no route maps or recognized stops, yet it is by far the most efficient means of getting around. Hand signs usually indicate a destination and taxis tend to stop whenever a passenger signals to a passing taxi.
Metered taxis are more traditional and can be caught at specific ranks or called for a pick up service.

Transportation: THE TRAIN -GO BY RAIL.
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: The Gauteng rail network is sophisticated and links directly to the national and international rail networks. As with most things, the hub of the sub-continent’s rail network is in Johannesburg and has regular services to neighbouring countries. However the provincial network is limited in its reach to all areas within the province and requires inter modal links to either bus or taxi when accessing some destinations.
