SHARKS
Great white sharks are apex predators, meaning they are at the top of the food chain. They are exceptionally fast swimmers and are capable of capturing mako sharks, tuna, dolphins, seals and even small whales.
they are intelligent and have one of the largest brains for their body size of any animal - more similar to mammals than other fish. This means they are able to adapt their hunting strategy depending on the prey. For instance, they often utilise stealthy ambush techniques in shallow waters to capture seals. This results in the spectacular breaching scenes, which have been widely popularised, when sharks chasing seals take to the air like ballistic missiles.
There are three main components to their diet:bony fish, sharks including smaller whites, and marine mammals. They are supreme opportunists though, and will eat just about anything from abalone, crabs and squid to dead whales if they encounter them. And very , very occasionally ,humans. |
