PORT ALFRED HEART OF THE SUNSHINE COAST .

On the coastal road to East London ,156kmfrom Port Elizabeth and 58 km from Grahamstown, Port Alfred is situated along the banks of the Kowie River.

There are extensive white,sandy beaches,good bathing and surfing,a beautiful lagoon and excellent deepsea fishing.The river is navigable for 24 km and can be explored by means of an overnight canoe trail.The Royal Port Alfred Golf Links is one of the finest on the South African coast.

The town's history is preserved in the Kowie Museum and the Settlers Church is a national monument.Many places of historic interest are close to town.There is a substantial business centre ,good hotels,caravan parks, camping sites and holiday cottages and cabanas along the beach.

Smaller resorts nearby- Kasouga, Riet River,Kleinemonde West and East, Seafield and Great Fish River Mouth - have camping sites but no restaurant or hotel facilities.
