Island in the Sun

Marco's Extemsive Beach
On the west coast of Florida, at 95 miles west of Miami, Marco Island is an excellent alternative to the crowded beaches of the eastern coast of South Florida. Marco Island is mixture of retirement haven and snow bird's winter retreat.
A lot of residents used to be winter residents that decided they wanted to stay year round.
It is a sleepy island in the south western coast of Florida, just south of Naples. Two bridges connect it to the mainland.
Most of the temporary rental accomodations consist of condominiums in a price range from $800 to $6000 a week. There also time shares, and a few hotels. The major hotels are The Mariott, The Hilton and The Radisson. These are in hotel row and are all beachfront properties.
There are a number of single, and multifamily buildings too.
Fast food is available on the island and cosists of Burguer King, Subway, KFC fried chicken. There is a movie house across from the hotels also. The main past time for vacationers here is the beach, fishing, and water sports.
In the summer, Marco Island is very popular with Miami residents who drive the 95 miles west to Marco to avoid the Miami tourists.

Please don't feed the pelicans! They naturally take small bait fish, which they can digest. Feeding them racks from filleted fish can cause starvation- they feel full but get no nourishment.

Thanks for your Marco page. Looks like my kind of beach. We are from PA and get down there every few years. Last time we enjoyed Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel. Thank you for sharing Marco with us.
