Greece is Central to civilization of ancient world before Christianity. You really feel like you walk in different world when you are at Acropolis.
Before arriving Athens, it is essential that you understand their history, their god & goddess and its pagan, otherwise, just stones and ruins will be comprehensible to you. I read Odyssy and Trojan war before and during the trip, and it made me really appreciate the sites I visited (oh...DVC also has elements of greek gods and pagan worship).
Athens is cool town, but a few days will be sufficient to visit main sites such as Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Flea Market, museums and different hills. I spent most of my two weeks time in Greece here as my base, and go to Delphi and Santorini from here.
Transportation is convenient. Virtually every tourist sites are in walking distance.
Our trip was during Xmas, but it was fine. The weather was just about right. (at 15c) Although museum enthusiast needs to check opening time. |
