I live just outside the city of San Diego . I have traveled many places around the world but there is no other place that fits me as well as San Diego. The best thing about San Diego is the WEATHER! Yes it is almost always a pleasant sunny day . I like to play tennis and I can play day or night . The beaches are beautiful and good for surfing and sunning but the water is a bit cold for me. I prefer the tropical beaches. There are many good music clubs especially in the "gaslamp" district downtown and around the various beaches as well. It is very easy to find info about what is happening and where to go around town on the internet or in the free San Diego Reader that can be picked up all over. This is a very tourist friendly city that is much easier to experience than any other part of Southern California. Although the central areas have public transportation with the trolley and buses, the best way to get around is to rent a car. Car rental is cheap and the whole of California is designed around the automobile.
