Quite simply one of the most amazing countries that I have been to. I just simply loved it. Located at the westren edge of Micronesia it is a tiny nation of 458 square km and just 20,000 people, gaining it's independence in October 1994. It is most famous for the Rock Islands which magnificent balls of green just sticking out of the ocean and for the amazing diving in the surrounding waters. But it much more than that. Babeldaob the island that has most of Palau's land sees hardly any tourists. Peleliu island is a living museum of World War 2 with all the wreckage still surviving. And the people. Honestly some of the best I have ever met. There is no beggars on the street, no one trying to seperate you from your money and always ready to give a helping hand. Palau is one place I am definatly going back to in the near future. |
